Maran’s Sun Group media conglomerate comprises 33 television channels, 67 radio stations, three daily newspapers, magazines and an Indian Premier League cricket franchise, SunRisers Hyderabad. Born into a powerful political family, Maran worked at his family’s publishing business before launching Sun TV Network in 1993. The service is now a regional TV heavyweight with significant market share in the four India southern states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Sun’s reach also extends to the South Indian diaspora in 27 countries around the world. Film division Sun Pictures is a leading South Indian production house with over 29 films released to date, including 2022 hits “Beast,” featuring Tamil star Vijay, and the Dhanush-led comedy drama “Thiruchitrambalam.” Coming up in 2023 is action comedy “Jailer,” starring the ever-popular Rajinikanth.
