Billionaire Mukesh Ambani's streamer JioCinema is making a play to become India's top streaming service by introducing cheap premium tier plans. From April 25, the service's existing INR999 ($12) annual plan for international premium content is being replaced by a monthly plan of INR29 (35 cents) for a single device or INR89 ($1.05) monthly for a family plan that covers four devices. Ambani
Chairman / Managing Director
The world’s 11th-richest person according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Ambani has a net worth of $88.1 billion. He chairs India’s Reliance Industries, with a market cap of $190 billion and interests in petrochemicals, telecom and retail. He owns the majority stake of Viacom18, a joint venture between Reliance’s Network18 Media & Investments and Paramount Global that distributes Indian versions of Viacom channels and operates Indian streamers Voot and JioCinema. In 2022, Viacom18 outbid Disney, paying $3 billion for streaming rights to the Indian Premier League cricket tournament, and in 2023 it won both digital and TV rights to local matches for five years — a significant win in cricket-mad India — as well as HBO/Warner Bros. Discovery rights. With a leadership position in India’s mobile and internet spaces and a 100-project film and TV slate, Ambani is locking his position as the country’s top media baron.
